I am over this season's first 4 races. They were the 24 hour Solo UK Champ, Southern XC , Gorrick XC and Gorrick 100. No podium finish yet, but I can't call it for a bad start after 18 months off from racing.
24 hour Solo UK Champ - DNF (10th)
Southern XC - Elite male - 7th
Gorrick XC - Elite male - 6th
Gorrick 100 - 6th
The biggest disappointment was the 24 hour UK Champ. I had to give up the race after 14,5 hours from the third place. Everyone was asking, what was wrong. It is so simple, I don't even want to write a whole post about it. I made a very big mistake, that was all! I started to hard and I burned out to early. The pace was very killer from the beginning and everyone wanted to win this race. 18 months off from racing made me a bit too hot headed.
I was in a bad mood in the next couple of days after the race, but I learnt the lesson and got the consequences. From the flip side, this race was a very good training for me and useful practise for my crew! We also had good time out of the race course and I met with lots of nice people in this few days!
I raced the two XC races only for training. I am not powerful and fast enough for this type of races, but it is amazing technical training and "speed" workout for me. I had fun on both. I have to say I preferred the Gorrick one a bit more. Southern XC was a real hardcore XC course, Gorrick one was more fun.
My latest and most positive race was the Gorrick 100. Top race, top course and top organisation! I finished 6th in the very strong field and I am well happy with it! Field was stuffed with strong XC riders and also some of the big endurance names been there. I felt strong and I really enjoyed the whole lot. Only the last two laps was a bit struggle on my hardtail.
So far is so good, I am looking forward now the upcoming races. Erlestoke 12 and Bristol Bikefest 12 hour are coming up.
I hope my new secret project is going to be done for a few weeks time and I can ride it on the Bristol race.
What is my new project? Well.... little sneak peak is here:
